How to Pack for a Ruidoso Getaway
Whether you’re headed to Ruidoso for a relaxing family vacation or an active mountain getaway, here’s a list of our best packing tips.
WHAT'S YOUR VACATION STYLE?
Is this a relaxing escape with pampering spa treatments, afternoon siestas with fine food and wine? Or, is your trip filled with active experiences? Ziplining, biking, hiking, afternoons at the lake and a round of golf? Will you be sleeping beneath the stars in a campground or RV Park, or have you booked a vacation rental with a kitchen to cook in? Think ahead about what kind of activities and accommodations you're planning to help determine what to bring along.
RUIDOSO WEATHER
Ruidoso weather can be a bit of everything all on the same day. Locals like to say that if you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes. You can usually be safe dressing in layers, but temperatures drop fast in the mountains after the sun goes down, so packing a lightweight down jacket and a pair of cozy slippers wouldn't be a bad idea at any time of year. In summer, the monsoon season, rainstorms usually start-up in the afternoon and last for an hour or two at most, leaving the rest of the day sunny and the temperature pleasant and cool. WE ARE A CASUAL MOUNTAIN TOWN
You can bring all the bling you want. Anything goes in Ruidoso. But mostly we're a casual mountain town where people dress less to impress and more for laid-back comfort. But if you’re looking to supplement your current wardrobe or oudoor gear, we’ve got that too. Check out our Ruidoso shopping guide.
BE PREPARED FOR SOME WALKING
We have an extensive trail system, popular public walking paths, and a pedestrian-friendly downtown, which means you might want to leave the stilettos at home and opt instead for shoes (or boots) that were made for walking.
THE BOTTOM LINE
The good news is that no matter what you forget, there's a good chance that you'll find it in Ruidoso. Our local merchants and shops are prepared for visitors and stock everything from camping equipment and mountain clothing, to fishing tackle in the summer and ski and snowboard gear for winter. The bottom line: We've got you covered.
