Bill Evans, Alan Munde & Tony Trischka are three of the world’s most celebrated bluegrass banjo players. They’re combining forces in this one-time-only concert at the Flying J Ranch to present an incredible variety of five-string virtuosity.

For this concert, they will be accompanied by three of New Mexico’s best musicians, Steve Smith (mandolin), Anne Luna (bass), and David Thom (guitar).
Bill Evans is not only the best banjo player in Lincoln County but he is also a recipient of the 2022 Steve Martin Banjo Prize. He has been involved with bluegrass music and the banjo for over forty-five years as a player, teacher, composer, author and historian. He has recorded five critically acclaimed solo recordings, including Things Are Simple, his 2023 release that Bluegrass Unlimited magazine called “not only a masterpiece but a celebration,” featuring his wife Babi and daughter Corey. Bill is the author of Banjo For Dummies and he hosts five online instructional courses for Peghead Nation. He’s performed all over the world, including an appearance with the San Francisco Symphony, and was a featured performer in last September’s Flying J concert with bluegrass guitar pioneer Dan Crary. Tony Trischka is perhaps the most influential banjo player in the roots music world. In his 40-plus years as a consummate banjo artist, his stylings have inspired generations of bluegrass and acoustic musicians. His technical and conceptual advances opened the way for such players as Bela Fleck (his one-time student) and Alison Brown and his recordings with them and others, including Earl Scruggs, Ralph Stanley and Pete Seeger, are part of every banjo-lover’s musical reference. He’s one of the banjo’s best composers and he’s just as likely to also play something from early banjo history, a Beatles medley or something that he’s just composed earlier that day! Alan Munde is a bluegrass banjo legend – easily among the most influential players of all time as well as being one of the world’s most accomplished and prolific teachers. Alan began his career in bluegrass music with the 1968 recording of Poor Richard's Almanac featuring Sam Bush and Wayne Stewart, followed by a traditional grounding in bluegrass music as a member of Jimmy Martin and the Sunny Mountain Boys. In 1972, Alan joined his college friend Byron Berline in the forward-leaning bluegrass group Country Gazette and he continued as the anchor of the group for twenty-one years. Along the way, he recorded many highly regarded albums, including Banjo Sandwich and the Festival Favorites series. Alan taught in the Bluegrass Music Program at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas from 1986 to 2006 and since that time, he has become a mainstay of the international banjo camp scene.
