XTERRA World Championship

The 2026 XTERRA World Championship marks two significant milestones: the 30th anniversary of XTERRA and the championship’s long-awaited return to the United States. From October 8–11, athletes, supporters, volunteers, and fans from around the world will gather in Ruidoso for a week that celebrates endurance, adventure, and the unique spirit of off-road racing.

As the host destination, Ruidoso is proud to welcome the global XTERRA community to its mountain trails, vibrant village, and spectacular autumn scenery for one of the most anticipated events in the sport’s history.

Competing in Ruidoso means more than racing at elevation. Athletes will experience challenging mountain terrain, technical singletrack, and the welcoming atmosphere of a community that embraces outdoor adventure. The combination of championship-caliber courses and genuine mountain hospitality creates a race week unlike any other.

The championship begins with a two-loop, 1.5K swim in Grindstone Lake at nearly 7,000 feet elevation. Athletes then tackle a demanding 27K mountain bike course featuring nearly 2,950 feet of climbing, technical singletrack, and exhilarating descents across Grindstone Mesa before finishing with a challenging 10K trail run through towering pines and varied mountain terrain.
