#RecreateResponsibly.
Let’s create a positive experience for all involved.
Ruidoso is a community that thrives on the connection between visitors and the land, the culture and the people.
All of us, from residents to seasoned visitors and travelers arriving for the first time, can turn to community and simple reminders about how to safely and responsibly recreate while caring for one another. Together, we can ensure that Ruidoso remains a cherished destination for generations to come.
Here are some tips to help you #RecreateResponsibly in Ruidoso this season and always.
FOR THE LOVE OF COMMUNITY:
Experience our beautiful part of the world in a way that builds human connection: Beyond just sightseeing, travel is a two-way experience where visitors can learn from the locals and vice versa. Such connections lead to a richer, more authentic experience.
Care for the landscape and its inhabitants by considering your impact. Respect the land, water, wildlife, and Native and local communities. Avoid sensitive habitats. Take roads slowly and understand your impact on your surroundings. Even if you’re away from others, sound travels far in the outdoors. Keep parks and recreation areas clean to help future visitors—and to protect wildlife from harm.
Take trash with you when you leave. Trash overflowing the receptacles becomes litter that is a public health hazard, harmful to wildlife and attracts predators. Check out our guide, 7 Ways to Keep Ruidoso Beautiful.
Bring a reusable water bottle and shopping bag to reduce the amount of one-time use plastics.
Pay attention to your surroundings with wildlife and wildfire in mind. Ruidoso offers a unique opportunity to view animals in their natural habitat. And yet, it is important to remember to treat wildlife with proper caution and respect. The safety of the animals, as well as your safety, depends on it.
Be respectful of others. Avoid blocking trails, and give space to people recreating or working. Please be gracious and patient with businesses as they continue to ramp up staffing. We are all adjusting to a new normal, and your courtesy will be much appreciated.
Plan and prepare. The outdoors can be high risk with conditions that change quickly. Be ready with the right gear and do your part to keep Ruidoso safe by keeping these tips on how to camp and recreate safely during wildfire season in mind for a safe and enjoyable outdoor experience in Ruidoso.
Safe High-Altitude Adventures: At an impressive elevation of 6,920 feet above sea level, a trip to Ruidoso promises an unforgettable adventure amid stunning natural landscapes and vibrant cultural attractions. Preparing for the high-altitude environment and taking necessary precautions can ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. So pack your bags, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and get ready to explore all that Ruidoso has to offer!
If you’re recreating outdoors, make sure that you aren’t contributing to overcrowding by having alternate plans if the recreation area is at maximum capacity. Reservations and permits may be required. Make sure you have the gear you need and a backup plan.
